Farmers market fundraising

Thanks to everyone who helped set up and take down the stalls at the farmers' market. In no particular order:

  • James Fenna
  • Ian Fulton
  • Pete Smith
  • Muttley Getley
  • Sue Bell
  • Dave Dumbreck
  • Eric King
  • Nick Leslie
  • Gail Nelson
  • and various Montfords

That's £200 for club coffers, but perhaps more importantly, doing our bit to help the market go ahead

Try hockey?

Kinross Hockey club is going to be offering some "come and try hockey" sessions for men and older boys (14 and over)  - either complete beginners or for those who haven't played for many years. Hockey is sport for life, which you can keep playing into your fifties and beyond, and, it's a lot of fun too.

We'll teach you some basic skills and have a knockabout game or two on Sundays (time TBC, depending on numbers, but roughly in the middle of the day). The aim is to do a few weeks to give you a feel for the game.

We can provide sticks, but you'll need to think about getting/borrowing shinguards and a gumshield. We have a few sets of shinpads we can lend, so if you are stuck, just ask. We're probably not going to be doing anything too aggressive if you don't want to fork out for a gumshield straight away, but this would have to be at your own risk.

If you are interested, complete the form below (contact details should be parent/guardian for juniors) and we'll get back to you.

200 and counting

By my calculations, we now have 200 paid up members of the club, which is probably a record.

We're going to need a bigger pitch.

First hurdle

Congratulations to Alyssa and OJ, who have made it through the first trial for the Midlands U14s squad. This is particularly impressive for Alyssa, who is still only 11.

Snowbound

The snow looks as though it has put paid to any idea of hockey for another day or so. There are still four or five inches on the playing surface and a drift a foot deep outside the main gate. Some pics below. Those of you who are on the members' facebook page will have seen some amazing pictures taken by Kirsty D just after the storm.

One out, one in

It was a momentous occasion at Kilgraston this afternoon. Louisa Pountney, one of the stalwarts of the L2s, decided that today's fixture against Perthshire II would be her last game, at least for a few years, as family responsibilities win out over the joys of standing on a freezing cold hockey pitch. I can't understand it myself.

However, stepping into the breach was Nikki Dall, the first Kinross High girl to make the step up to playing for the ladies for several years. Cap'n Wendy M threw Nikki straight in at the deep end, giving her the pivotal role in the centre of midfield,  deputised for the maestra herself, Wendy S. However, Nikki ended up looking as though she intended to make the role hers on a permanent basis, harassing Perthshire players left, right and centre. Those on the sidelines also noticed that there was a certain amount of relish in Nikki's tackles of KHS hockey teacher, Kirsty Imlay, who was captaining the opposition. Her efforts certainly seemed to do the trick, as the ladies came away with a 3-2 victory and Nikki got herself joint POM (with Anna).

A truly memorable afternoon.

Christmas night out

A few pics from the Christmas night out, a very civilised and sophisticated occasion (apart from the club President getting rowdy at the start and Doug L's sartorial choices).  Thanks to the Muirs Inn for looking after us so well.
