Introduction

During the winter months, when the pitch is frozen, we organise indoor hockey sessions at Kinross High School on Sundays. Indoor hockey is similar to five aside football, in that you can play the ball off the walls (or in the case of hockey, off special boards along the sides of the pitch). It’s excellent for developing close skills and vision.

Equipment

Indoor hockey uses special lightweight sticks - usually wooden - and it is a condition of hire that we use these (although there is an exception for the youngest children). The club has indoor sticks that children can borrow, so it’s just a matter of turning up and taking one. Once children decide they want their own indoor stick, it’s easy enough to pick one up for £15 or £20 or so.

Apart from that, children will just need training shoes and their normal safety equipment.

Please bear in mind that the High School sports hall gets very hot. Every year we get children who need to sit out because they are overdressed. Shorts/skorts and tshirts are what is required.

Limited numbers

Unfortunately, because we can only get 12 children on the pitch at a time, numbers are limited and we have to decide who gets to come. A first cut is usually made on the basis of who has been attending tournaments, with the coaches then making further suggestions on the basis of who they would like to encourage.
